In April, the government of Odisha has declared bank holidays on the following days. April 1, Odisha Day; April 13, the second week of Saturday as Bank Holiday and Sri Ram Navami; April 19, on account of Good Friday and on April 27, the fourth week of Saturday as Bank Holiday.

Bank Holidays in Odisha during April

All the banks including Karnataka Bank, Federal Bank, Dena Bank and IndusInd Bank will remain closed on all the bank holidays.

Annual Closing of Bank Account: The banks in India will not be doing the regular business transaction on this day.

It will close the bank accounts of all the existing customers for the fiscal year, and the balance amount will be carried forward for the next fiscal year. The banks in India will remain closed on this day.

Sri Ram Navami: It is a Hindu festival. Ram Navami marks the birth of Lord Rama, son of King Dasharatha of Ayodhya. It falls on the Navami, the ninth day of the Chaitra month of Hindu lunar year in “Shukla Paksha,” or waxing moon and it also marks the end of nine-day Chaitra-Navratri celebrations. This festival is widely celebrated by the performances of Ram Leela based on the famous epic Ramayana. Beginning from Ram Navami, the performance continues for over a month. Some observe fasting on this day and take food only after visiting the temple. The Ram Leela will be held in Asureswar of Cuttack district and Dasapalla of Puri district.

Good Friday: Christians in Odisha observe Good Friday as a day of prayers and penance shunning all worldly comforts to commemorate the sufferings and crucifixion of Jesus Christ. Christians start their day with fasting and visit the church to offer prayers. Some even fast from around 40 days before Good Friday in keeping with the tradition during the season of Lent. Prayer meetings, Carol community songs, fasting prayers will be held in churches. The seventh statements of dying Christ will be read in churches as part of the Good Friday. One can also see the sand art of Lord Jesus by Sudarsan Pattnaik at Puri sea beach on this day.
