Bank Holidays in Uttar Pradesh during March

All the banks including ICICI Bank, Federal Bank, Dena Bank and Syndicate Bank will remain closed on the second week and fourth week of Saturday.

Maha Shivaratri: Maha Shivratri is celebrated with great pomp in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh.

According to the legend, Lord Shiva is the saviour of our world. A pot of poison emerged from the depths of the ocean during Samudra-Manthan. This frightened the gods because this venom would harm the whole world. Shiva drank the poison to protect the world. This festival is celebrated to mark this occasion.

Devotees flock temples dedicated to Lord Shiva, to offer prayers throughout the day on this special day. The Shivalinga is worshipped every three hours with milk, curd, and honey. Bael leaves and flowers adorn the lingam.

Hajarat Ali's Birthday: The government of Uttar Pradesh has declared a holiday on the occasion of Hajrat Ali's birth anniversary. Hajarat Ali was the cousin and only son-in-law of Muhammad, the prophet of Islam. He is regarded as the actual successor of prophet Muhammad.

Holika Dahan: The government of Uttar Pradesh has declared a holiday on the occasion of Holika Dahan. It is celebrated by burning Holika (sister of Hiranya Kashipu). The fire burnt on the eve of Holi symbolizes the burning of Holika. The night before Holi people across the country burn pyres to mark the occasion. The festival marks the victory of good over evil.

Holi: The government of Uttar Pradesh has declared a holiday on the occasion of Holi. A day after Holika Dahan, Holi is celebrated across the country with pomp and splendour. Holi is a Hindu spring festival; it is also known as the festival of colours. It is also observed as a thanksgiving for a good harvest. People smear each other with colours and drench each other in the water.
