IoT, Gaming, Broadband, Entertainment - The Next Growth Engines For Jio

Having established itself as the leader among telecom operators in the country, Reliance Jio is moving ahead in its digital business. Addressing RIL's (Reliance Industries Limited) 42nd Annual General Meeting (AGM) in Mumbai, chairman Mukesh Ambani explains Jio's agenda for growth.

While its wireless network will be upgraded from 4G plus to 5G at minimal costs, Jio now plans to connect 1 billion Indian homes on its Internet-of-Things (IoT) platform. It will be made commercially available from January 1, 2020 and offer the company Rs 20,000 crore revenue opportunity on an annual basis to RIL.

 

"We have fired up just one of the engines of revenue generation for Jio, mobile broadcast," and the company will now look into new growth engines like IoT, Home Broadband, Entertainment and MSME Broadband.

RIL has invested in 14 startups that compliment Jio's services, Mukesh Ambani said.

Jio will connect 1 billion homes over its IoT platform. 20 million residents and 25 billion businesses are projected to be connected over Jio GigaFiber which will complete its roll -out in 12 months time.

The company has also designed the Jio Set Top Box to accept broadcast signal from LCO partners. JioFiber will also provide cloud connectivity to MSMEs (Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises) and aims to empower 2.4 million SMEs.

Mukesh Ambani said that Reliance has received 15 million registrations from 1,600 towns for home broadband service.

The new Jio video-conferencing solution is available and its inter-operable with any device.

Jio will also be launching its first multi-player gaming platform. The Zero latency gaming platform will be provided with the Jio GigaFiber.

The company will also be making Mixed Reality (Augmented Reality+ Virtual Reality) available on Jio GigaFiber. MR on its platform can also be used for shopping, education and entertainment purposes, said Isha Ambani. It will made available at an affordable rate.
